How Han With A Van got started
This all started with Hannah’s impulsive idea to help girls out on moving day.
Han With A Van is the UK’s largest network of female & NB movers for small scale flat & house moves.
We’ve helped girls move out of their single mum’s house for the first time.
We’ve moved women in the fresh hell of unexpected break-ups.
We’ve accompanied women back to the house they once shared with men who hurt them, and packed up while they grieved something painful and complicated, but still managed a giggle or two along the way.
Nobody wants to do any of that with a middle-aged bloke they’ve never met, who smells a bit weird and already has three other people’s stuff in the van.
You want a big sister with a van and some muscle. Someone who’s got her shit together, who’s got a plan for how to lift the heavy stuff, who’ll put a decent playlist on, and who’ll deal with any problem that dares get in your way.
That’s why we exist. So when shit really hits the fan, you know who to call.
What is Han With A Van?
Han With A Van is a female-led removals network for women and queer people, working right across the UK.
Our founder, Hannah, started out all on her own. After more than two hundred moves and over a thousand enquiries, she realised there were more people who needed her help than she could fit in before she dies. So she went in search of other brilliant women and trained them to do what she did. Now she does the interviewing, passes on the wisdom and sets the standard, and together we run the office. We take your enquiry, ask any follow up questions we need to, send you one flat fee quote, and match you with an incredible local mover.
Every mover in our network is self-employed, drives their own van, and got here via Hannah. We ask the same things of all of them: kindness, top notch problem solving, some serious strength and the right kit.
Whether you’re leaving a difficult flatmate, escaping a shitty landlord, moving out of your mum’s, starting again in a city where you don’t know anybody yet, we’ll get it done. And the day will be a whole lot easier than you’re currently imagining.
Things we hear 100 times a day (and why you can stop worrying)
“I’ve got way too much stuff.”
Babe, everybody says this. Every woman is constantly worrying that she takes up too much space. You will never get any judgement here.
“I can’t lift the heavy things.”
You won’t be lifting them on your own. We work alongside you and any pals you invite along to help. If one mover isn’t going to be enough, say so up front and we’ll quote you for two.
“Last time I moved I was awake from 4am with anxiety.”
The lead up to a move is always anxiety-inducing. No one is their best self on moving day. If you’re having a rough time, we’ll stop for a coffee and a breather. Nobody’s rushing you.
“Can my dog come?”
Most of our movers are more than happy to have you and your pets in the van. It’s at your mover’s discretion, so it can depend on the animal, the length of the drive and whether she has allergies, but it’s usually a yes. Just tell us in advance.
“My flat’s a state and I’m embarrassed.”
Nobody’s judging you. Moving day was never going to be your most presentable day. Our priority is getting you and all your belongings from point A to point B with minimum stress. We don’t need it to look pretty when we rock up.

One flat fee, agreed before the day.
Everything in one quote, based on what you tell us about your move. We don’t charge by the hour, so bad traffic or any delays are nothing to worry about. As long as you’ve got roughly the amount of stuff you described to us, give or take a few bits, you’re all good. If you’ve got a lot more on the day than we were expecting, we’ll let you know about any changes in the fee straight away.
We turn up when we say we’re going to.
We can all be 10/15 minutes behind schedule, we’re all human. But you’ll never be sat waiting for us until 9pm if your planned start time was 10am. That’s not how we do things here.
A few extra bits are genuinely no bother.
Extra boxes, a last-minute stop en route, the drawer you forgot. Fine. If something significantly bigger turns up that was never mentioned, or we need to make a 30 minute detour, we’ll talk to you about it first and clue you in on any additional cost.
How it works

Fill in the quote form.
Your move date, both postcodes, roughly what you’ve got, anything big or heavy, and the lift or flights of stairs at each end. Photos of your stuff and of the access routes are really useful. You can even email us a video walkthrough if you like!

We come back with your flat fee.
Usually a couple of quick questions first. If we’re not right for your move, we’ll say so and tell you who is.

You say yes, we find your mover.
Local to you, or up for the long drive.

You pay your 50% deposit and lock in your booking.
After that, you and your mover will be in direct contact in the run up to the day, and the balance is due once your move is complete.
Is Han With A Van right for your move?
We typically send one mover to help you on moving day, unless you explicitly ask for extra pairs of hands. So a room in a flatshare, a studio flat or a small 1-2 bedroom place is very doable. If it can fit in an UberXL, or it’s a fully furnished 2+ bedroom home, we’re not the service for you.
We don’t do office moves or corporate relocations.
Packing isn’t included as standard, so please have everything boxed up and sealed before your mover arrives (other than hoovers and airers and awkward things, they don’t need to be in boxes). Some of our movers can take packing on in some areas, so ask when you enquire and we’ll quote it in if it’s available.
We don’t offer storage and we don’t transport anything hazardous. Your jewellery, cash, cards, passport, keys and medication travel with you rather than with us.
Some jobs are just out of our league and we’ll always say so, if that’s the case. Other moves are simply too small and our minimum quote will be far in excess of what you need. When it’s not the right tier of service, you’ll get a straight answer and a pointer towards someone who can actually do it.

Started in London, now operating nationally. Our movers live all over the country and they travel for the right job, so we cover the whole UK, local moves and long hauls.
London to Edinburgh, Bristol to Glasgow, Newcastle to Norwich, Sheffield to Brighton, Glasgow to Manchester, Truro to Elgin... you name it, we’ve done it. We’ll also consider moves between the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. Those get quoted one at a time, and we arrange dedicated insurance for that specific job, so just ask and we’ll tell you what’s possible.

Who is Han With A Van for?
Mostly women and queer people who want to feel safe and looked after on moving day. Everybody is welcome to enquire, as long as we all respect the one, most sacred golden rule: don’t be a dick ✨
What sizes of moves can you help with?
A room in a flatshare, a studio flat or a small 1-2 bedroom place. Think a one-bed with its furniture, or a two-bed with very little furniture and mostly boxes. We send one mover as standard (two if you ask) with a van up to extra-long wheelbase. If it would fit in an UberXL, our minimum quote will be far more than you need. If it’s a fully furnished 2+ bedroom home, a full removals crew will suit you better, and we can send you some recommendations.
Where do you cover?
The whole of the UK. Our movers are based all over the country and they travel for the right job, so we take local moves and long-distance runs anywhere in the country.
Who are your movers?
Women and non-binary people, self-employed, owning or hiring their own vans. Every one of them interviewed, vetted and trained by our founder, Hannah.
How much does it cost?
One flat, all-in fee quoted to you in advance, based on what you tell us about your move. Services & Pricing shows you exactly how we put our quotes together.
Do you do office or commercial moves?
No office moves and no corporate relocations. We’re a domestic service. If you’re a sole trader moving a studio, a workshop or a market stall, do ask though, because they’re absolutely doable!
What if there’s more to move than I said?
A few extra boxes, no problem at all. If there’s significantly more boxes than you described, big furniture nobody mentioned, or the access is very different to what you told us, we’ll talk to you and agree anything extra before it happens.
Is my stuff insured?
We hold goods in transit cover while your things are in our care, up to £10,000 for the contents of the van at any one time. Every claim carries a £500 excess, and some things aren’t covered at all. It’s all in our Booking Terms, and anything particularly precious or irreplaceable is better off travelling with you.
